Update Your Tax Slabs (%) in Unisolve/Cross as Per Latest GST Updates


With the recent GST slab updates, many product tax categories have changed. This comes after the 56th GST Council meeting held on September 3, 2025, where comprehensive GST reforms were approved to simplify the tax structure. The main focus of these reforms is to improve healthcare affordability and ensure easier patient access. As part of the GST 2.0 rationalization, the tax slabs are now simplified to primarily 5% and 18%, making the system more straightforward for businesses and consumers alike.

Major GST Revisions (Effective September 22, 2025)

  1. 12% → 5%: All drugs, medicines, and nutraceuticals (Vitamins & minerals)
  2. 18% → 5%: Medical devices, diagnostic equipment, surgical instruments, health supplements
  3. 12% → 0%: 33 lifesaving drugs for cancer, rare diseases, chronic conditions
  4. 5% → 0%: 3 additional cancer treatment drugs
  5. 12% → 5%: Medical supplies (gauze, bandages, glucometers)
  6. 12% → 5%: Pharma job work services

To help you stay updated and avoid any issues in billing or reporting, this guide will walk you step by step on how to change the tax slab (%) and also update the HSN codes in Unisolve/Cross according to the new GST slabs.

Please take a proper backup of your data before running this process.

Step:1 How to Create New Tax Type

If you want to track which products are shifted to the new tax slabs, you can create a new tax type separately before updating the tax type in products.
  1. Go to System > Master Data > Tax Type.

  1. Here, select the Tax Code (for example if you want to create 5% Tax slab, then use SG1) in the Tax code column. In the next column, add _O2 to help with tax code bifurcation.
  2. Fill in other required details like Tax Rate, Description, etc.
  3. Click OK to save the new tax type.
Note: Similarly, you can create other tax types by following the same process.

For Sale:
  1. Use Tax Code - "SG1_O2” – 12% to 5%
  2. Use Tax Code - "SG1_O3” – 18% to 5%
  3. Use Tax Code - "SG0_O2” – 12% to 0%
  4. Use Tax Code - “SG0_O1” – 5% to 0%
  5. Use Tax Code - “SG0_O3” – 18% to 0%
  6. Use Tax Code - “SG3_O4” – 28% to 18%
For Purchase:
  1. Use Tax Code - “PG1_O2” – 12% to 5%
  2. Use Tax Code - “PG1_O3” – 18% to 5%
  3. Use Tax Code - “PG0_O2” – 12% to 0%
  4. Use Tax Code - “PG0_O1” – 5% to 0%
  5. Use Tax Code - “PG0_O3” – 18% to 0%
  6. Use Tax Code - “PG3_O4” – 28% to 18%
Note: These new tax categories are created to help you easily identify in the future whether products fall under the new or old GST tax slabs.

Step: 2 How to Change Tax Type for Products in Unisolve

In Change Tax Type in Products, you can replace your old tax type with the new tax type and apply the change to all product batches at once.
  1. Go to System > Facilities > Tax > Change Taxtype in Products.
  2. Select the Old Tax Type and the New Tax Type as per the latest GST update.
  3. Tick mark “Change in Batch” if you want to apply this change to all Products' Batches at once.
  4. If you want to select products based on Master Group, Group, Attribute, Category, or by Product, you can use the available filter options.(Note: These filters are only available in 16.3.9 or later version).
  5. Click OK to save the update.

1. When you change 12% Gst Products in 5% Gst then select as per following:

Old Tax Type - SG2 & New Tax Type - SG1_O2 

2. When you change 18% Gst Products in 5% Gst then select as per following:

Old Tax Type - SG3 & New Tax Type - SG1_O3 

3. When you change 12% Gst Products in 0% Gst then select as per following:

Old Tax Type - SG2 & New Tax Type - SG0_O2 

4. When you change 5% Gst Products in 0% Gst then select as per following:

Old Tax Type - SG1 & New Tax Type - SG0_O1 

5. When you change 18% Gst Products in 0% Gst then select as per following:

Old Tax Type - SG3 & New Tax Type - SG0_O3 

6. When you change 28% Gst Products in 18% Gst then select as per following:

Old Tax Type - SG4 & New Tax Type - SG3_O4 

(Please change same as for Purchase)

Step: 3 How to Change Tax Type for Products in Cross

  1. Go to System > Facilities > Change Products Change Tax Type In Products.
Note: The process to change the tax type in Cross Software is the same as described in the Unisolve process above.

InfoImportant: If you want to change your tax slabs, in Unisolve version 16.3.9 or later, we have provided new auto-generated Tax Types with new Tax Codes. You just need to update your software and select the new tax types.

Important: With auto-generated tax types, you can directly update your tax slabs by following the process described in Step 2.

Info: There is no need to update the HSN code for billing to work after changing the tax type. However, if you still want to update the HSN code, you can follow the process given below.

How to Update Product HSN Code

If you want to update the product HSN code, follow the process given below:
  1. Go to GST > GST Updates > Update Product HSN Code.

  1. Select the HSN Code you want to update.
  2. Choose a specific Product or a whole Category if you want to update multiple products at once.
  3. Click the Show Products button to display all related products on the screen.
  4. Once the products are displayed, you can proceed to update the HSN code as needed.

  1. Click the Update HSN (SAC) To All button to apply the selected HSN code to all displayed products.
  2. You can also manually edit the HSN code for individual products if needed.
  3. Finally, click the Update HSN (SAC) button to save the changes.
